One of the most spectacular transformations recognised in the 2013 National Railway Heritage Awards was the restoration of the original station at York as part of a scheme to create new office space for the City of York Council. The work was given the Key Publishing Modern Railways Restoration Award at the ceremony held in London in December 2013 and the plaque was officially unveiled on the building during the afternoon of 26 March 2014 by Councillor James Alexander, leader of City of York Council, in the company of Ann Saundry and James Abbott, representing Key Publishing and Modern Railways, and members of the National Railway Heritage Awards’ committee.
