Tuesday 22 April saw the formal unveiling at Dereham by David Allan, Chairman of the sponsors Ian Allan Publishing Ltd, of the plaque awarded to the Mid-Norfolk Railway as the winner of the 2013 Heritage Railway of the Year Award. The award announced at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London in early December 2013 marked the success of the preserved line in becoming one of the most country’s successful preserved railways. Amongst the facets of the line’s operation praised by the judges was the quality of the restoration work undertaken on the line’s buildings and the commitment of the railway to the operation of modern traction.
