The 2019 National Railway Heritage Awards marked the 40th anniversary of the competition. To mark the milestone the NRHA arranged for the publication of a history of the awards – Restoration Rewarded by Robin Leleux – which was published officially at the award ceremony held in London on Wednesday 4 December 2019 in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal. Of the individuals behind the competition – originally called the Best Restored Station competition – only one is still with us; unfortunately Gordon Biddle was unable to make to journey south from his home near Arnside for the award ceremony in December and so, on Wednesday 12 February, four members of the NRHA committee (Theo Steel, Chairman, Robin Leleux, Chairman of the Adjudicators, Andy Savage and Peter Waller) travelled north to present Gordon formally with his copy of the anniversary book.
