Ever since the North Yorkshire Moors Railway commenced operation over Network Rail to Whitby there were limitations in terms of capacity. In order to solve these problems, the railway undertook a project to reuse the Grade II listed signalling gantry that once stood at Falsgrave in Scarborough. The success of the railway in reusing the gantry and enhancing the operational connection between its line and the national network was reflected on 2 December 2015 when the scheme was awarded the Siemens Signalling Award at the 2015 National Railway Heritage Awards. The plaque recording this success was officially unveiled by Peter Duggan, from Siemens, at Grosmont on Saturday 16 April.
